Purposes of the Project

Project will analyze legislation and practice while aiming to harmonize migration and security policies in the EU and Turkey. The project will also facilitate exchanges and contacts among civil society actors to change perceptions on key issues such as migration and security. In addition, the project will contribute to the specific objectives of the call such as increased cooperation between non-governmental organizations, academics and policy makers in the field of migration and security. The project will increase awareness of the need for cooperation between the EU and Turkey in the field of foreign policy and security, while changing the perception of the negative aspects of migration and closing the knowledge gap regarding the causes and effects of migration.

The project will not only counter the populist and hostile rhetoric of some extremist parties, but will also strengthen ties between the EU and Turkey, which must work together to overcome common challenges in migration and security. As stated in the Call, the project is likely to influence the general public in Turkey and the EU regarding its importance and positive impacts on Turkey's future EU membership, in line with the Priority Area of the Call for Proposals. Ensuring fruitful and long-term cooperation in the field of migration and security through action can give new impetus to Turkey-EU relations and bring some progress in the accession negotiations, which have been stalled for a while.

In accordance with the Commission's 2005 Communiqué, "Any future enlargement of the EU must be supported by a strong, deep and continuous dialogue between the societies of the candidate countries and the EU Member States and EU institutions". The role of civil society in closing the information gap, achieving better mutual knowledge, thizing citizens and different cultures, political and economic systems is undeniable. Our project will improve civil society dialogue and harmonise policy guidelines between NGOs in the EU and Turkey in the field of migration and security. Chapters of the EU Acquies will be covered by this project; Chapter 10 Information Society and the Media, Chapter 24 on Justice, Freedom and Security, Chapter 30 on Foreign Relations, Chapter 31 on Foreign, Security and Defense Policy. As a result, these key chapters can be more harmonised between legislation and implementation on both sides. Migration and security are common challenges for both the EU and Turkey. Increased co-operation between NGOs will strengthen civil society dialogue by highlighting the positive aspects of EU-Turkey relations. Improved co-operation between NGOs in Turkey and the EU in the field of migration and security will also raise awareness of the benefits of Turkey's future EU membership. Migration and Security are key areas where Turkey is an indispensable ally for the EU.
